My subject matter is an exploration of how gender roles, sex, and violence affect human beings, and how society pushes certain judgments on our Western culture. I use varied mark-making, both visceral and thick, and soft and blended to blur ideas of masculinity and femininity. I aim for my viewers to get lost in the space between the beautiful and the grotesque so that a harmony may be formed.
Recently, it has been important for me to explore traditional ideas of “women’s work,” which can be painfully repetitive and abusive, especially for garment sweatshop workers, with repetitive text. This text contaminates traditional feminine patterns with over worn ideas of pollution and dire situations.
